The history of pickleball

Pickleball began in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, where three friends—Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum—set out to create a fun game for their families. With a badminton court, a lowered net, simple paddles, and a plastic ball, they unknowingly created a sport that would go on to take the world by storm.

What started as a backyard pastime quickly evolved. Rules were refined, competition grew, and the game spread across the United States before gaining global momentum. Its unique mix of accessibility, fast rallies, and social energy made it irresistible to players of all ages and abilities.

From Backyard Game to UK Tour Movement

Today, pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world—and here in the UK, it’s thriving.

At Pickleball UK Tour, we’re proud to be part of that journey. We’re not just running tournaments—we’re building a nationwide movement. Bringing the game to over 20 venues and welcoming thousands of players each year, we create events that combine high-quality competition with an unbeatable atmosphere.

Whether you’re stepping onto the court for your first event or chasing a podium finish, our tournaments are designed to be inclusive, exciting, and professionally delivered.

More Than a Sport

Pickleball is more than just a game—it’s a community.
It’s about competition, connection, and pure enjoyment every time you step on court.

And at Pickleball UK Tour, we’re here to grow that community—one tournament at a time.
